DIY MANUALS RECESSION PROSPERITY GARDEN

At Bloom Garden show 2009, the Recession- Prosperity garden was presented as a DIY alternative garden. 

Some show gardens feature ground covering plants with a market value of € 10,000 which makes for luxorious displays and comply with the Bloom judges statement "Show gardens are not meant to be real gardens".

F&s thinks that Bord Bia, the state organisation sponsoring Bloom should encourage show gardens as well as gardens that actually have some educational value and create contemporary judging criteria, instead of: "copying the rules of Chelsea Flower show" ( Andrew Wilson, judge at Bloom). Chelsea was inaugerated 150 years ago.  

The Recession- Prosperity garden won a silver medal at Bloom, the judges decided: "the garden is not showy enough and the trees and plants are not grown to (nursery) standard". 

The Garden subsequently moved on to win the bi- annual Irish Landscape Institute award. The Judges stated:

the garden is full of creativity and generosity and is credible, inventive and achievable. A fantastically simple but elegant and practical 21^st century response to garden design on a restricted budget providing every element of sustainability for anyone interested in making the best of their garden.

It has also been shortlisted for an international award.
